The 9th strongest contributing factor to spiritual luster is Respect. Respect is defined as the degree to which you truly allow others to be themselves. Another way of expressing respect is ‘unconditional positive regard’. Carl Rogers, PhD, the well-known counselor, teacher and author, claims that unconditional positive regard of one of the primary means of effective personal interaction; this allows growth and change.
Criticism of another is essentially disrespect. Paradoxically, criticism is the surest way to force others to dig-in their heels and become even more set in their ways… and perhaps never change. Respect calls you to look beyond the foibles of others, forgiving their transgressions, thus freeing them (and you) to live their life in the manner which suits them. You are called to hold up the lantern of illumination; not hit people over the head with it! Criticism covers your own spiritual luster in shadow and forces the other person to hide theirs. Criticism erodes respect.
Spiritual luster eases my soul… it connects me to divinity. A new sense of mutuality arises in me… I’m part of “the Whole” of the universe. I feel relief that “all is well.” I’m not separated… I’m “part of the immensity of Love that hovers over me right at this instant.
You give respect to others when you cleanse your thoughts of any judgment, criticism or negativism. Perhaps the highest form of respect is giving reverence, to God’s presence in each and every person.
